Department of Animal ResourcesThe Department of Animal Resources provides animal procurement, animal care, veterinary services and scientific and diagnostic support for animals used in testing and research at USC. Visit Site Donald Casebolt, Director General Clinical Research Center Bionutrition CoreThe GCRC Bionutrition Core provides diets tailored to study specifications; dietary analysis; and indirect calorimetry for assessment of metabolic rates. The Bionutrition Core also provides body composition analysis by bioelectrical impedance and DEXA scans. Visit Site Carmen Martinez, Bionutrition Director Health Research AssociationHealth Research Association (HRA) provides clinical trial support services, including fiscal management, project staffing, purchasing, contracting, budgeting, project accounting, sponsor/investigator financial reporting, staff development and training, IRB document preparation, study opportunities, proposal preparation/grant writing, and other clinical research administrative tasks. The Investigational Drug Pharmacy at HRA manages all investigational product tracking, mixing, dispensing and monitoring. Visit Site HRA Norris Cancer Center Bio-Reagent CoreThe Norris Cancer Center Bioreagent and Cell Culture Core supports cancer related research that requires in vitro experiments, provides reagents for cell culture and prepares Bioreagents that are produced by cells grown in the facility. The Core has acquired a New Brunswick BioReactor and is in the process of developing and evaluating lipofectin preparations for cell transfection. Visit Site Dr. Zoltan Tokes Norris PharmacoAnalytical CoreThe USC/Norris Core Pharmaco-Analytical Laboratory develops, validates and performs qualitative and quantitative drug assays and their metabolites in various biological matrices. The laboratory provides analytic capability including high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) using conventional UV/visible and fluorescence detection, and is upgrading its resources, including liquid chromatograph mass spectrometry (LC-MS). Louie Pancreas and Liver Transplant CoreThe Department of Pancreas and Liver Transplant Surgery Core offers core laboratory support in three areas: Cell culture, molecular biology, and subcellular organelle. It provides cell line banking and hepatocyte cultures; offers highly-purified plasma membrane, mitochondrial and microsomal specimens for use in transport, metabolic and biochemical studies; and oligonucleotide synthesis along with a number of other custom services. Visit Site Keck Department of Pancreas and Liver Transplant Surgery Research Subject Advocacy ServicesResearch Subject Advocate (RSA) Services serve as a resource for investigators regarding issues related to subject rights, safety and safe conduct of research in humans. They also assist investigators in development or evaluation of Data Safety Monitoring Plans, serve as a resource for patients who have questions about their rights as research subjects and their participation in research protocols and monitor the informed consent process for studies utilizing vulnerable subjects. Visit Site Robert Larsen, M.D., Senior Research Subject Advocate Translational Pathology CoreThe Norris Cancer Center Translational Pathology Core provides normal and tumor tissue specimens necessary for many of the laboratory-based, epidemiologic and clinical studies being conducted by Cancer Center investigators. Services include the supply of fresh or frozen adult normal and tumor tissue specimens, pediatric normal and tumor tissue specimens, and population-based, fixed tissue specimens.
